Google Ads Connector Overview

1. Introduction

Google Ads CMU Connector

The Google Ads Customer Match Upload (CMU) connector allows Narrative users to upload customer data directly to Google Ads for creating targeted advertising campaigns. By leveraging this connector, users can streamline the data upload process, ensuring that their or their partner’s advertising efforts are accurately targeted and effective.

  • Enhanced audience targeting for more effective ad campaigns.
  • Simplified integration with any Google Ads customer.

2. Deliverable Data Types

The following Narrative Global Rosetta Stone Attributes can be delivered to Google Ads via the CMU connector:

  • SHA256 Hashed Email (sha256_hashed_email 76)
    • ID: 76
    • Description: An email address hashed with the SHA-256 message digest algorithm. See below for best practices when hashing an identifier using SHA256.
  • Phone Number (sha256_hashed_phone)
    • ID:
    • Description: A phone number hashed with the SHA-256 message digest algorithm. See below for best practices when hashing an identifier using SHA256.
  • Person Name (person_name 36)
    • ID: 36
    • Description: The name of a person.
    • Required Properties: family_name, given_name
  • Country (iso_3166_1_country 4)
    • ID: 4
    • Description: The ISO 3166-1 alpha-2 country code.

3. Using the Connector

Creating a delivery profile**

In order to deliver data to a Google Ads advertiser, you need to create a delivery profile for each advertiser you wish to deliver to.

Find existing delivery profiles by navigating to Installed Apps → Google Ads Connector.

Create a new delivery profile following the guide here: Linking Your Google Ads Account to Narrative for Data Delivery.

Adding a Connection to a Dataset**

  1. In My Data, navigate to a dataset that contains one of the supported connector data types.
  2. Click on the “Connections” tab.
  3. Connect an audience to an existing Google Ads Connector profile using the provided "Quick Settings".

Delivery Settings**

These "Quick Settings" apply to this individual delivery to the destination only:

Connection Type:

  • Deliver to New Audience
  • Deliver to Existing Audience

Audience Name:

  • The name of the audience as it appears in the Google Ads UI.

Audience Description:

  • The description of the audience as it appears in the Google Ads UI.

Audience Membership Duration:

  • This number is communicated in days.
  • Default: 10,000 (do not expire users in this audience).

Deliver all data:

  • Deliver data that is currently present in the dataset. If you do not check this box, only new data written to the dataset after this connection has been configured will be delivered.
